| Kurzfassung | Model-driven engineering (MDE) supports the development process by using domain-specific modeling languages (DSMLs). In industrial settings, DSMLs such as the one used in PREEvision often cover multiple domains, increasing their complexity and making it harder to define a user-friendly concrete syntax. The concrete syntax determines how elements of the abstract syntax are presented and directly impacts model quality and usability.
This thesis proposes an approach for defining a consistent and user-friendly textual concrete syntax. The approach is applied to a selected part of the modeling language of PREEvision. A user study was conducted to evaluate the textual syntax in comparison to the graphical one. The evaluation using the System Usability Scale (SUS) reveals that the textual syntax achieved a significantly higher usability score (Ø=76.25) than the graphical syntax (Ø=57.08), corresponding to a 33.6 % increase in perceived usability. |
